Australia has some of the funniest comedians in the world. We are indeed a funny bunch, half the time though we don't know whether the world is laughing with us or at us. In any event these are my top 5 Australian comedians.

1. Carl Barron

With his casual style and story telling about every day funny stuff Queenslander Carl Barron is hands down my funniest Australian Comedian. This former roof tiler has performed all over the world winning the hearts and minds of millions with his observational humor. His Aussie comedy strikes a chord both in Australia and abroad which has resulted in him headlining every major Comedy event around the world including the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Hilarious.

2. Adam Hills

Adam Hills is a boy next door type character. His comedy profile has been increased by hosting the hugely popular TV show Spicks and Specks. His live comedy performances though are great. Adam Hills also has a prosthetic right foot which he uses as comedy relief in some of his routines.

3. Dave Hughes

The quintessential Aussie male, honest and imperfect is how you would describe Dave Hughes otherwise known as Hughesy. Hailing from country Victoria Hughesy has appeared in the long running Rove TV show and now fronts as a panel member of the contemporary news show The Project. His ability to make fun of himself is what we Australians do well and Hughesy does it best.

4. Lano and Woodley

You may sometimes find Australian comedy acts done in pairs, hence the case with Lano and Woodley. Another act I'm thinking of is the Unbilical Brothers. Lano and Woodley don't perform anymore but their slapstick theatre style was brilliant and hilarious.

5. Jimeoin

Born and bred in Ireland but Australia has adopted this comedian as one of their own. Perhaps it's his accent we find funny but his timing is impeccable. Very funny man with a unique outlook on life.
